How Membership Works

Once you have decided to become a member of Bristol Community Darkrooms, there is a simple process to go through before getting started in the darkrooms.

Click Here to Download the Induction Handbook

  • Attend a Free Fast-Track Induction or have your induction at one of our Free Members Supported Sessions. This is so that you can meet one of the directors, take a tour, learn where everything is kept and where the fire escapes are located. Have a look at our Courses and Workshops page to find out when the next one is.

  • Subscribe to our Membership scheme. Its only £25 a month per person so is great value. You can amend your subscription by logging into the website and clicking My Subscriptions. Alternatively, you can book in as a non member for £15 per 3 hour session.

  • Booking sessions is easy! Book your sessions online through the website by clicking Book Online. You can book individual 3-hour sessions if there is availability. Please bear in mind that the darkroom might be already booked up by other users, a course or event, so try changing the date or time to find a suitable slot. If you need longer, simply book additional sessions but please don’t book more than you need to keep availability open for other users.

  • When you book your sessions, use the drop-down menu to select which enlarger you want to use or if you are processing film or using our colour darkroom. Please stick to the area you have booked as someone else may have another enlarger. You can cancel or amend your bookings by logging into the website and clicking My Bookings.

  • Bristol Community Darkrooms is based in St. Pauls Learning Centre. When you arrive for your session, please report to Reception. They will need to see your booking receipt and some ID to allow access. If you are the first person to arrive at the Darkroom, you will be given the keys to open the doors. Please communicate with any other Darkroom users during your session to ensure that the last person to leave locks up and safely returns the keys to Reception.

  • Please be courteous and cooperative with any other darkroom users and the staff at St Pauls Learning Centre. Clean up after yourself, dispose of used chemicals as needed and leave the darkroom ready for the next user.

      It is simple as that!
